Nars Pokerface

I was so on the fence with this one. Lighter purple's can be great or terrible on me and luckily this one is great. I was suprised at how much I love this one on me. It's delicate without being pastel or stark. The formula is a dream! One coat - though I added another for the photos to cover a chip I had. It has subtle silver shimmer. *sigh* I love Nars. The best part that this was a birthday gift. Thank you Terni!!

Sometimes a polish just makes you go, "Damn, this looks good on me!"

Color Club Alter Ego Collection Swatches

I bought the new Color Club Alter Ego collection from Victoria Nail Supply. I bought the whole collection and I am now kicking myself for it. I like Color Club. I think they are a bit underrated but I am a bit disappointed in this collection. From the promo photos I was expecting bling and duochromes. There is some bling but nothing unique. Not much duochrome either. I think that if you love the colors and have nothing like them they are a good buy but overall I'm not as excited for these as I thought I would be.

The Reveal Your Mystery collection. All are sheer and needed about four coats to be opaque. That's a pity too because these are a really nice collection of soft shades. They are just too much work for me.

Sheer Disguise. A suprise because I like it. It's soft without being stark and an interesting mixture of grey and blue. It's sheer and needed four coats but I'm enjoying this one. Really, really wish this wasn't so sheer.

Give Me A Hint. A soft taupe. Not as purple leaning as some taupes but more of a mink.

Secret Rendezvous. A lilac.

Revealed. A golden peach with pink/peach pearl shimmer.

Incognito. A very soft nude. Reminds me of a very light coffee shade.

Get A Clue. This looks like it has a hint of lilac to the pink. It's not stark which was a surprise.

The Keep It Under Cover collection. All are shimmery and vibrant. The opposite of the soft colors above.

Alter Ego. This reminds me of Sally Hansen Purple Gala and Hard Candy Mr. Wrong but less purple and a bit more shimmery.

Masquerading. I have no idea if this is supposed to be a pearl, frost or metallic. It has an odd texture and dries really, really fast. Love the color but not the formula or finish. Plus side, it's a one coater and might work to stamp with. This would look wonderful as a creme.

Secret Agent. Much more vibrant and purple in real life. This shares the same formula and texture as Masquerading but it's thinner.

Total Mystery. Vibrant indigo with pink sparkles. Reminds me of OPI DS Magic and Sally Hansen HD in Laser (I think it's Laser).

Ulterior Motive. The pink version of Total Mystery.

Alias. This is sheer so I layered it over black. My pick of the group. It has a slight duochrome where it flashes purple with some pink and gold.

Finger Paints 2011 Spring Collection: Palette of Petals Swatches

Palette of Petals is Finger Paints Spring collection. Six bright and festive colors that remind me of, well, flowers and spring. Which I suppose is the point. Odd to have these when it is 20F out and icy/snowy but fun. Each bottle comes with a crystal flower ring that coordinates to the color of the polish. I do love kitsch.

I am a bit chagrined by the stupid name trend. I thought OPI had a corner on that market but it seems I am wrong.

Did You Ash-Her Out? A bright and vibrant pink creme that borders on neon. Three coats were needed but I think if you wore a foundation color it would help. It's really vibrant and not as coral in real life as it is showing in the photos.

Dahlia My Number. A peach/orange with golden shimmer. The only shimmer in the bunch. Reminds me of juice and only needed two coats.

Carnation Creation. Great formula. Smooth and creamy and a one coater. This is a teal creme that leans more towards the green spectrum of teal. Really pretty.

Aren't You Glad-iolous? A really lovely lilac creme with a suprisingly nice formula. One coat and it went on smooth. I'm not a huge fan of the color on me but I am impressed with the formula. I can see working this into some nail stamping.

Heavenly Hydrangeas. This is lovely. It's a rosey plum creme. I did two coats but I could have done one thick coat and have been happy. Wonderful formula! This is along the lines of OPI Dim Sum Plum.

Chrysanthe-mum’s the Word. Ah, the problem child. The formula on this one was thick and a bit gummy. Oddly enough, as it dried it did smooth out somewhat (not enough) but applying it was a pain - some thinner may help. It's a vibrant apple green creme.

Here is the ring that comes with Carnation Creation. Blingish!

My thoughts:

It's not a unique collection but it is bright and cheery. The formula on most is wonderful and you can usually get them on sale so the price is good. But oh, the names! My picks are Heavenly Hydrangeas and Carnation Creation. Palette of Petals will be available from Sally Beauty Supply, online and in stores, March 2011.

Misa Office Polish-tics

This was the only color from Misa's 9-5 collection that called to me. You can see swatches of the complete collection here at Body and Soul. Beautiful formula - very smooth and creamy and dries with a high shine without a topcoat. It's a cadet blue and it reminds me of the West Point uniforms. I'm trying to overlook the stupid name. I don't think it is working.

I bought this from Transdesign.

KleanColor Firework

I really like this glitter. It's obnoxious and a bit garish but that is what I like. Firework is a clear base with gold glitter and blue, red and gold round glitter pieces. It's like other confetti type glitters but it leans more gold. It actually is named Firework and not Fireworks. Odd.

I wore this over Borghese Trevi Gold and it's only one coat. I've read that KleanColor has a really strong odor. Now I either have a defective nose (I don't) or I just don't mind the smell. Actually I kind of like it but, to me, it's not as strong as what I thought it would be. *shrug*

I'm going to have to explore this brand some more. Any suggestions on colors?
