Swatches of American Apparel New Colors
Labels:
American Apparel
I got the new American Apparel polishes that I ordered two weeks ago. Not the quickest delivery but they were wrapped really, really well. Yay and about time. See? Double bubble wrapped and in plastic bags. First, my thoughts. I can see a number of these colors being considered ugly by some. I happen to really like non-traditional colors so I am enjoying them. The formula was either great with two coats or thick and needing thinner. This may be due to the fact that they were ice cold when delivered so I will see what they are like after adding thinner. Not all of the colors are original but I have to say that I don't regret buying any of them. They all seem to go together in an odd way and I appreciate that they are a creme finish.
You will notice that my nails are shorter. The cabinet attacked me again and I broke my right ring finger. Jerk! The next few posts after this one will have my longer nails so don't scratch your head over that. On to the polish!
Port is a vampy burgundy red that isn't too heavy on the brown. Not an original color but pretty and a two coat formula. It's dark but doesn't look black. Very sexy.
Cameo Blue is lovely. It has a slight dusty feel but is still bright. Reminds me of the blue you see on china pieces or on cameo jewerly. I really like this one and it was two coats.
Cocoa is a light brownish taupe. It's very plush and comfy looking. The first coat went on streaky but the second coat covered really well. I do like these brown/taupe colors.
Raccoon is a dark nuetral brown. A vampy brown and a color I like. Formula on this one was thick and on the syrup side. I'm sure thinner will take care of that but you can see the thickness in the photos. Reminds me of China Glaze X or Essie Little Brown Dress.
African Violet is a deep violet. Two coats but could have done one if I were careful. I had to tweak this since it photographed too blue. Reminds me of SpaRitual Illume and an Orly I am drawing a blank on.
Rouge is a deep dusty pink. I like this one and it reminds me of China Glaze Nasty.
Make Up is a brownish nude. Remember the trend of the brown/pink nude lip of the 90's? This is what that reminds me of - MAC Twig to be exact.
Trenchcoat is a muted mustard. Formula was a bit thick as you can see but nothing a little thinner can't fix.
Echo Park is a soft dove grey with no starkness. Yum!
Mannequin is a pink based nude. Not stark which suprised me. The ripples you see are from the top coat but this will need some thinner. It's thick but not streaky which I can deal with. I can see this not being flattering on a number of folks but since I am pale it looks good. Well, I think anyway.
MacArthur Park is a pea soup green. Not attractive but I love it. Two coats and a good formula.
Army Jacket is a soft sage green. Formula was a bit sheer but only two coats were needed. I really like this one!!
Whew! There you have them!

You're awesome. Lots of us are wondering what the new shades look like on :) Thanks
oo such pretty colors :)
Great colours,I love them all :-)
I picked up African Violet, Cameo Blue, and Poppy in-store on Black Friday. 20% off and surprising pleasant service! I should have waited to see your swatches, now I need Makeup, MacArthur Park and Army Jacket. Oh, and Happy Belated Birthday! I might stay near my mailbox if I were you. :)
I like Echo Park, Mannequin and Army Jacket. Thanks for swatching!
'African Violet' reminds me of Orly's 'Charged Up'. I'm not sure if that's what the Orly color you had in mind, but that's what first came to me when I saw it ^.^
+ I reeeaaallly like 'Army Jacket'. So so pretty, and it's such a soft color that I think it would look great on anyone.

Thank you for the swatches!!
I'm gonna have to leave these ones by the riverside though. They look okay, but in my opinion, aren't worth the cost. Or the injury that my soul will sustain upon giving American Apparel my hard earned moniez.
very pretty colors and safe shipping maybe because of the time of year? hope not i hate getting packages and you can smell the nail polish through the box-uh oh.... that purple looks like orly charged up.
Charged Up from Orly was the polish! Thanks. It was driving me nuts. I actually sniffed the box before I opened it. Ha! Also, thinner really helped with the formula on Racoon, just an FYI.
Some very nice greens and Trenchcoat looked lovely too!
Oh, Echo Park! <3
Great swatches, Thanks :)
