Avon Violetta Sparkle

Oh wow. Avon tends to be tame with polish but they sometimes release some great ones. This is one of them. It's what I wanted OPI Designer Series Mystery to be. This is a lush dark purple with flecks of gold shimmer. I see other colors of shimmer in there as well but the gold stands out. It's not too dark to be mistaken for black and the shimmer isn't subtle. Not bad for about $3.

Wacky Laki did a great manicure with it that I love. I may have to steal the idea.

Two coats of lovely.

Reader Request: Orly Plum Noir & Avon Midnight Plum

For Millie.

I trimmed my nails and when they are short like this I enjoy wearing darker colors. This request was perfectly timed. Thanks Millie!

Orly Plum Noir is a dark plum creme. It's dark but not too dark and never looks black. It's elegant and sexy and wears well. This photo is taken after a day and I didn't notice the wear until after I took the photos. But I did put together some Ikea furniture wearing this so not bad for the abuse I gave the manicure.

Avon Midnight Plum is a glossy dark vampy plum. This is a classic vamp color in my opinion. Darker compared to Plum Noir and the shine is outstanding on this one. No topcoat in this picture.

Reader Request: OPI Moon Over Mumbai

For Natalie.

OPI Moon Over Mumbai is a sheer dove grey shimmer with a hint of lavender. I love this color because it's soft and clean without being pastel or stark like a white. It doesn't hurt that it makes my hands look elegant.

The closest colors I could find to OPI Moon Over Mumbai are Essie Great Expectations and Avon Urban Grey. The Avon is a creme and more opaque and a hint lighter. The Essie is a bit more sheer and the shimmer is a bit more pronounced. All three are a very close match.

Essie Great Expectations and OPI Moon Over Mumbai are available at TransDesign. All three can be had from Ebay for between $3 and $5.

Avon Lagoon

This isn't a new Avon color but it caught my eye. It's a frosty/shimmery cornflower blue. It's very soft looking without it being pastel which I like. I don't love it or hate it but it did help me decide if I want Zoya Jo or not. I do.

Avon Calling...Some New Colors

I showed you all Avon Jade and Olive Green and wanted to show some other new colors that Avon has released.

All were three coats and went on wonderfully. They are shiny even without a topcoat. For the price these are winners! I bought these off Ebay because of the five Avon reps that I emailed about ordering not one got back to me. Hm.

Urban Grey is this lovely soft light dove grey that looks like it has a hint of lilac added. I've worn this one three times since getting it so it is a winner for me. It reminds me of OPI Moon Over Mumbai and Essie Body Language. So if you like those you will like this one.

Luxe Lavender is a dusty lilac shade along the lines of OPI Done Out In Deco but a bit lighter.

Tangtastic is a bright juicy orange. So yummy!

Limeade is a frosty (very frosty) pale yellow green. Like the color but dislike the formula. It's way too brush strokey and frosty for me. Also, I *think* this is new but I am not sure.

Smackdown: Avon Jade vs OPI Damone Roberts 1968

I am not a huge mint fan but I do like jade green colors. They are more flattering to me and tend to not make my fingers look red. Besides Chanel Jade, Avon Jade and OPI Damone Roberts 1968 are two really lovely examples of jade green. They both have this soft diffused look on the nails and they both remind me of Jadeite. I decided to compare the two to see how similiar they are to each other.

Avon Jade. Wow, Avon you are rockin the cool colors lately. The formula on this was a dream. It went on smooth and in two coats. It self leveled as it dried and there was no streaking. The formula is a bit thick but not too thick that I couldn't work with it. I can see it needing thinner in the future. I honestly have no complaints and for the price it is a steal!

OPI Damone Roberts 1968 is/was an exclusive to Damone Roberts. Now I am not a fan of the OPI wide brush but this one is both thick and round and scraggly. I think I may have gotten a wonky brush which is annoying. The formula is thin and thick at the same time and it went on a bit streaky. I wouldn't have had so many issues if the brush didn't stink. The color is so worth it though. Just lovely.

Now to compare them. Left to right (top to bottom) they are Avon, OPI, Avon, OPI.

Close up with Avon on the left and OPI on the right.

The OPI is a more true jade color with the Avon being a bit darker. The formula on the Avon kicks OPI's butt. So for color OPI wins and for formula the Avon wins. If I could get a non-pro wide brush for this OPI (and all of my pro-wide OPI colors) I would be a happy camper.

Smackdown: Avon Olive Green vs RBL Orbis Non Sufficit

Rescue Beauty Lounge Orbis Non Sufficit is in my top 20. It's a murky greyish dark sage green. I have yet to find a dupe for it and the formula is creamy and smooth. It is one of the very, very few polishes that I paid full price to get it in my greedy hands.

Well, Avon Olive Green arrived the other day and it's gorgeous. The forumla is creamy and smooth and I only needed one coat for perfect coverage. One coat! WooHoo! Go Avon! The best part is that it was only $4 from EvilBay.

The very best part is that it is a dupe for RBL ONS. I can't tell them apart and I have to say that the formula on the Avon is just as good as RBL but maybe a tad better. I needed two coats for RBL and one for Avon.

Check it out.

The order is left to right RBL (pointer finger), Avon (middle finger), RBL (ringer finger) and Avon (pinky finger).

Can you tell them apart? I honestly can't. I am declaring Avon the winner. I think if you have been wanting RBL ONS you should get the Avon and save yourself some bucks.
