Misa Bourbon on the Rocks

This colors rocks my world. Bourbon on the Rocks is a pretty spot on dupe for OPI German-icure which works for me since I prefer Misa over OPI. It's a rich brown red with shimmer and life. Wonderful formula as well. This is two coats. 

Here you can see the shimmer. 

I love that it's darker or lighter depending on the angle. It's very lush.

I was kind of excited about the WanderLust collection from Misa. I saw a post with swatches and went "Ooo" when I saw it. They looked great! All that shimmer and glowing - yes! Well, in reality most of them are a let down. I have no complaints on the formula on any of them and a few I really liked but for the most part I am eh about them. They look so great in the bottle but the shimmer just doesn't translate to the nail. I get annoyed at hidden shimmer polishes. Be a shimmer or not! Hmph! 

Keep in mind that the first three are in direct sunlight and the shimmer shows much, much better so don't get too excited like I did. In reality they have a soft and subtle (secret!) shimmer that you really can't see. I want to emphasize this because I felt fooled when I bought them after seeing swatches that made them seem as if the shimmer wasn't subtle. You are better off buying some CND Effects and wearing them over a creme. 

I wore Epiphany already and here are the rest.

Frozen in Time. This reminds me of Sinful Zeus. 

BreakAway. This is very much like Jessica Witchy Wisteria and Zoya Tru so not an original color. 

Lost to the World. 

Taking Chances. This one I like because it reminds me of older Misa polishes. It's a golden apricot/peach with gold glitter flecks. This is unique to my collection because I'm not normally drawn to colors like this. I may have to fix that. 

Live Without Knowing. Now this one is nice! It's a dirty taupe mink color with hints of a purple undertone with golden shimmer. To me, this is the star of the collection.

I kept looking at Epiphany as I was wearing it because it reminded me of something. It was driving me crazy because I couldn't figure out why it felt familiar to me. I hate when that happens! You know that white and gold fabric that you see around the holidays that is usually used to decorate tables? I usually see that combination with table runners or placemats. This is what this gold reminds me of but in a more muted shade. I decided to stamp it using Bundle Monster plate BM-315 and white polish to kind of mimic that look. I like it - it's sweet looking.

Misa is one of my favorite brands. I tend to pass on their Spring and Summer collections but I perk up with the Fall colors. They appeal to me because they aren't afraid to do "ugly" colors with interesting finishes. Epiphany (which is one of my favorite words) is from the Fall 2012 Wanderlust collection and Misa describes it as a soft buttercup yellow which is not at all what it looks like to me. I think it is a yellow pale gold with golden/copper shimmer. It reminds me of pale gold lame fabric that you would find on an old clutch/purse. I think this would look great on someone with a darker skin color that has yellow or red undertones. 

I needed three coats because the formula is a bit fluffy which tends to create slight bald spots. Not a huge issue for me but it may be for some. I don't think I have anything like this in my collection. I bought this at TransDesign.

Smackdown: Essie School of Hard Rocks

A quick comparison of Essie School of Hard Rocks, Finger Paints Vintage Velvet and Misa Dirty Sexy Money. The Essie and Finger Paints are cousins to each other with the Finger Paints being a bit more brighter and more tealish. Misa isn't even close to either. I hope this helps.

I posted Phazers on Stunning (awesome!) already and decided to show the rest. It's a great collection and makes me love Misa even more. The only formula issue I had was the sheer factor of the duochromes. I don't mind that because I tend to expect duochromes to be sheer.

Beyond Infinity. A smokey blue with subtle shimmer.





Shields Up. This needs to be worn over another color. It's too sheer for me to wear alone. It's a duochrome that has light purple and green flashes with silver sparkles.







Grey Matters. Look at the speckles! Look! It's a space rock.





Spaced Out. More space rock but a bit darker.





The Great Green Whatsit. Love the name of this. The color flashes from blues to greens with sparkles. This one is sheer as well and will be better over a base color.
