Smackdown: Shimmery Taupes

As I was wearing and posting the last three polishes, I realized that they look similiar. I decided to do a smackdown (or a comparison) of the three. I already posted Under My Trench Coat, Fedora and Earthly Harmony so I won't repost them.

Fedora and Under My Trench Coat are pretty close and if you have one you really don't need the other. Earthly Harmony is much darker and the shimmer is a bit more pronounced. All lovely but the formula on Fedora is the best of the three.

Left to right (top to bottom) it is Under My Trench Coat, Fedora and Earthly Harmony.

MAC Earthly Harmony

I love taupes and ordered this one along with Jade Dragon from MAC. The formula on this one was a bit thick and I'm going to have to add thinner the next time I wear it. Love the color. A creamy mid-tone taupe with golden shimmer.

MAC Bad Fairy

I fell into the hype. I don't usually do that and I wasn't going to get Bad Fairy but I was sure I would regret it so I ordered it from Macys. I'm really, really glad I did because it is gorgeous! Gorgeous! Sparkly and shiny with flashes of red, gold and red/pink. My only complaint is that I have done one manicure with it and the bottle already shows use. When I wear it again I will wear it over something. I used three coats here.

Sexy beast!! Lots of photos because I couldn't help it. I suggest you click at least one photo for a larger more detailed view. Oh, and ignore the cat hair. *sigh* I think Thom likes the smell of nail polish.

MAC Jade Dragon

I caved and picked up a few of the MAC polishes from Nail Trend F/W 2010 collection. I put Jade Dragon on first and it was love. MAC seems to have improved the formula greatly but wow are the bottles tiny! I forgot that they are smaller than the average bottle of polish. You would think the price would reflect that. Hmph!

Jade Dragon is an amazing deep green with shimmer/sparkles. It's dark but never looks black and reminds me of dark spruce trees. It looks like a green you would see in a dark forest. The shimmer is lighter and a blueish/green. Two coats and I could have gotten away with one. I did a few touch ups before taking these photos because I had this on for two days. Yum!

Lots of photos and remember to click for a larger image.

On to the hand.

Now beauty can come with a price at times. The price of this is staining. The staining!! Here are my naked nails (eek!) after removing Jade Dragon. I wore it with two coats of basecoat and before removing slathered my hands in oil. When I removed the polish I scrubbed and scrubbed with acetone. I applied tons of cuticle oil and lotion and scrubbed with sugar and Dawn dish detergent. It was like my fingers had become moldy. Ahh well.

MAC Rocker

Years and years ago MAC Rocker was the first MAC polish I owned. I used most of it up and it got lost in moves and such. I never thought about it until I was on Ebay and found it again. I paid a bit under $3 for it too! Sweet! Ahh, memories.

I wondered why it was so cheap when MAC seems to be a seller on Ebay. It may be because it is in the old frosted square bottle and people may think it is fake. It's not. MAC's polish originally came in those frosted square bottles. So if you see them, snatch them up. The formula is wonderful and the older colors were awesome!

Here she is! And look, you even get to see what it looks like on my skin - opps! Isn't she pretty?
